Product Description

South Bend Lathe Operators Manual for 1906-1940 Lathes
Operator Manual

For Models:

Description:
This is the 39th edition of the South Bend "How to Run a Lathe".  This is a reproduction of the manual that was available when a South Bend Lathe was purchased.  It is a must have manual for not only those with South Bend lathes, but for any lathe owner. It is reproduced in an 8-1/2" by 11" format with a comb binding that will allow the manual to lay flat while using and is much easier to use than the original 5" by 7" manual.  The manual starts out with an interesting "History of the Lathe".  It gives instructions on "Setting Up and Leveling Your Lathe" and  how each part of the lathe operates.  There are chapters on "Lathe Tools & Their Applications" , "How to Take Accurate Measurements" , "Plain Turning (Work Between Centers)" , "Chuck Work" , "Taper Turning and Boring" , "Drilling, Reaming, and Tapping" , "Cutting Screw Threads" , and "Special Classes of Work".    It contains 130 pages.  To view the Table of Contents, to inspect the quality of the manual,  and to view select pages, please click on the gallery images above.

Includes sections on:

  • History and Development of the Lathe
  • Setting Up and Leveling the Lathe
  • Operation of the Lathe
  • Lathe Tools and Their Application
  • How To Take Accurate Measurements
  • Plain Turning (Work Between Centers)
  • Chuck Work
  • Taper Turning and Boring
  • Drilling, Reaming, and Tapping
  • Cutting Screw Threads
  • Special Classes of Work

Number of Pages: Approx. 130
Publication Date: 1940
Publication No.: 39th Edition

Added Notes: Due to others making copies of these for resale, I have added a light watermark to select pages to discourage this practice.

About this manual:
This is a high quality reproduction manual which has been scanned with a high resolution scanner.  Each page is then digitally edited in Photoshop to remove grease marks, fingerprints, writing, and other imperfections that the original manual may have had.  It is then printed on 24 lb heavy paper and 65 lb cardstock for the covers with a 600 DPI LaserJet printer.  The result is a clean and durable manual which many times is better than the original and should last many years in your shop.
